What is the Panhellenic Council?

Thank you for visiting the Rutgers Panhellenic Council website! We are the governing body of the 13 member sororities totaling over 1,000 Panhellenic Women. Greek Life at Rutgers University has a rich history spanning over 170 years.

We, the Rutgers University Greek community, envision working as a unified whole. We will hold ourselves and each other to our standards by committing to promote the growth of scholarship, professionalism, cultural awareness, service, leadership, and friendship for life.

Membership Recruitment (also referred to as “Rush”) begins on January 22nd with chapters holding individual Information Sessions and Meet the Sisters events. Interested students are encouraged to attend recruitment events at more than one organization so they may find the group best suited for them.

Events are typically casual and generally activity centered. Recruitment events are held on campus (in student centers or in academic space) and off-campus (registered chapter houses) and are advertised via Facebook groups and on-campus flyers. Spring Formal Recruitment will begin Saturday, February 1 and ends Monday, February 10.
Although all fraternities and sororities are strongly encouraged to recruit members each semester, some organizations may not accepting new members this current semester. If you have questions about a specific organization, contact FSA at ofsa@echo.rutgers.edu.

Are you a transfer student who pledged at your previous institution?
Were you pledging a sorority at your previous institution? If you did, but were never initiated, you can join any one of our organizations during your first semester at RU.
If you have been initiated into a sorority, but your organization is NOT at RU you cannot pledge or become initiated into another organization. We are happy to help you find other ways to be involved on campus or direct you to an alumnae club or chapter in the area. Please contact OFSA for assistance ofsa@echo.rutgers.edu.

If you were initiated into a sorority and we have that sorority at RU you can affiliate with the Rutgers chapter rather quickly. Typically there is some paperwork involved for your inter/national headquarters which will officially transfer your membership from your “old” chapter to the Rutgers chapter. Please contact our office and we’ll be happy to connect you with the Chapter Advisor and President who can answer your questions.
